Ending the Global Casino?

Ending the Global Casino?

Ad Broere

The world recently has had final notice that financial markets were at the edge of a major downfall. The monetary systems worldwide have been patched up by mega money injections in their banking corporations. However, as the attitude of the limitless greedy has not changed at all, and the financial markets have returned to business as usual, a new and this time more disastrous crisis can be expected to come. In 'Ending the Global Casino' Ad Broere explains that financial crises, scarcity, debts, and interest are not Natures Way, and that the present monetary system is not the only choice we have. We can say goodbye to this global casino, and opt for a solution in which money plays a subservient role. We can choose for an economy that invests in a better future for the planet and all its living creatures. Our reward may be a high and sustainable quality of life for us and for our children. However, this will require a completely different attitude towards money and economy. Ad Broere, economist and author of Een Menselijke Economie (A Humane Economy) has been active for more than thirty years in banking, consulting, and education. Widely experienced and highly respected, he is more than capable of clarifying the strengths and weaknesses of the economy.

Management made simple

Mickey Huibregtsen

Our societies have come to the end of the road. We need a fundamental reconstruction of the systems and institutions that now govern us and redefine the roles of all the players with a stronger focus on making things work by respecting the human dimension. This is not a choice between socialism, and capitalism or any other -ism. There is no future for any pure -ism. Life is too complex and interdependent for that. We need organic institutions with a clear view of purpose and values. We need governments that guide and inspire, rather than direct and control. We need corporations that pursue value creation for all stakeholders and finally we need citizens that reassume their personal responsibility for the wellbeing of society. The world's complexity grows exponentially in the 2010s and 2020s. And with it the challenge to management at any level of any organization anywhere. The purpose of this book is to help managers deal with this complexity by offering some simple concepts, models and ideas on topics varying from corporate strategy to organisation, leadership and operating performance. The working hypothesis in doing so is that there is only one way of dealing with complexity and that is by making things simple. In this book Mickey Huibregtsen shares his vision and ideas with next generations of leaders. This book is relevant for managers at any level in any type of organization who aspire to "see the forest through the trees". Mickey Huibregtsen (1940) is an engineer by training. Prior to joining McKinsey & Company in 1970 he was responsible for the structural design of a submarine for the Dutch Navy and the General Manager of the Gas Turbine division of Stork and as such involved in the building of the World's largest oil booster station in the middle of the desert in Iran. As a senior partner of McKinsey & Company worldwide (1970-1998) he counseled most of the top 50 companies in the Netherlands and half of the government departments as well as many clients elsewhere in Europe and in the USA. He launched a wide array of public initiatives in business, science, education, health care, media and sports to enhance overall performance both in quantitative and qualitative results. Amongst many other roles he was chairman of the Dutch Olympic Committee (NOC*NSF) from 1990 to 1998.    "Mickey is a great leader, and I am excited that he is sharing his lessons on leadership with the broader business community. He has a wealth of unique experience and brings a distinctive perspective on best practices relevant to managers at all levels".  Dominic Barton, Global Managing Partner McKinsey & Company    "This is a very important and comprehensive reminder of prudent management from a deep thinker and practitioner of management whom I have known for a long time. For an ambitious global leader, this is a must read and a useful reminder of good management practice".  Kenichi Ohmae, Japan's management guru and CEO Business Breakthrough    "As a global hub airport we clearly recognize Mickey's observations. His thinking inspires Royal Schiphol Group and me personally to put our contribution to society even more central in our objectives and be ready to accommodate the needs of an increasing globalized world".  Jos Nijhuis, President & CEO of Royal Schiphol Group    "Mickey helps you to understand complexity in a simple way: great insights in how you can adapt your thinking to present realities".  Jeroen van der Veer, former CEO Royal Dutch Shell     "The world's complexity grows exponentially. "Management Made Simple" will help you understand how to deal with this increased pace of change, the main global issues and the role and responsibility of corporations".  Feike Sijbesma, CEO Royal DSM    "Mickey Huibregtsen has shown a unique ability to create a bridge between fundamental and applied science through his many initiatives".  Bernard Wientjes, former President of Dutch Employers Organization    "Mickey is one of the front runners in integrated thinking about management and its social responsibility. This book confirms his reputation both as an original analytical thinker and a socially engaged leader".  Albert Roëll, Chairman KPMG Netherlands    "The world's increasing complexity calls for a sharp mind, a deep understanding and a borderless creativity as offered by Mickey in this book".  Jan Peter Balkenende, former prime minister of The Netherlands;

Society 3.0

Society 3.0

Ronald van den Hoff

Financial crises plaguing our society today, as well as their effects on the future of work and education. Ronald van de Hoff also describes the need for (and emergence of) a knowledge- driven civilization, marked by accelerating change, value networks, and knowmads, the nomadic knowledge workers of the future. Monetizing on the Mesh is the final theme explored in this book. Open value networks replace value chains, reality and virtuality are blurring. People get what they need from each other and may go around your organization, unless the crowd becomes part of your organization. Business models are changing. How do you connect with potential clients who may never become paying clients in the end? What is social capital? How do you create sustainable monetization with your own Mesh? Ronald van den Hoff is a renowned European entre- preneur and trend watcher. His latest adventure is Seats2meet. com, an answer for the market dynamics of our time and the fast-changing needs of globally connected and locally involved citizens, allowing access to inspiring venues for vibrant meetings, offices, and coworking. These virtually connected spaces (3rd spaces) form the serendipitous stage for the companys stakeholders to create new, sustainable economic value. The 80 worldwide locations of the Seats2meet.com network have become the living laboratories in which the principles of Society 3.0 are tested and executed.
